MusicReader Upgrade
Next week, the long-awaited upgrade of the MusicReader app will be released. Starting Monday, October 5, we will begin rolling out the update to all MusicReader apps. The update will be rolled out in phases; we expect it to be available for everyone in about a week.
A couple of highlights in the new release:
- Improved display modes and an additional scrolling mode.
- Smoother annotations, with options to easily edit them afterwards.
- Improved page settings options.
- Support for additional languages.
- A more flexible top menu that integrates additional functions.
- Improved library layout with separation between active and archived pieces.
- More flexible options for adding pieces to the library.
- And much more...
Want to know more about the improvements already?
You can:
- Follow us on Facebook – we already shared many improvements there and will share more in the next few days.
- Check the new Cloud App. The Cloud App has already been upgraded and has most of the features of the new native Apps.
- Check the help section of the new release.
Does the update happen automatically?
On most systems (iOS/iPadOS, Android and Windows) this is done automatically, but that can take some time. In most cases you can also do it manually as soon as it's available for you. On macOS, the app must be updated manually, as it doesn't support automatic updates.
Instructions for manual updating will be shown in the Notifications section of the App. These will appear once the update is available for you.
Can I delay the App upgrade?
Yes, you can turn off automatic updating of Apps on your device(s). You can then decide when to upgrade. In two months the upgrade will become mandatory for supported devices.
Can I get the App upgrade faster?
We cannot control who gets it first. You'll need to wait until it's released for your device. In the meantime, you can already try the Cloud App.
Is my data safe?
All your data in the app will be preserved during the upgrade. For extra peace of mind, we recommend syncing the app before upgrading. This creates an additional backup in your account.
Will old and new versions work together?
For at least 6 months we will keep them working together. The only exception are features available only in the new version.
Do all devices get the upgrade?
Unfortunately, the following devices will not get the upgrade:
- iPhone/iPad with iOS 11 or older
- Android devices running Android 6 or older
- MacOS 10.14 or older
See for more details our earlier messages about this. Windows 10 and 11 will both remain supported.
What happens on unsupported devices?
They will keep the MusicReader releases they currently have.
Is the upgrade free?
Yes, this is all included in new and existing subscriptions.
How do I know if I have the new version?
The layout of the App will change on many places. You can also find the version number in the bottom-left corner of the App Settings. Version 26.x is the new release.
